8.1. Study Material

Précis and Class Outcome:

This class deals with the leading indicators of immaturity. When an organism is deprived of nurturance, arrested development takes place. Maturation stops at that point where nourishment ceases. After studying this class, you should be able to recognize the markers of immaturity.

Text:   It takes maturity to …

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another…Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality…Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another…Provide things honest in the sight of all men. (Romans 12:10-17)

8.1    Nurturance Required For Growth

Every organism requires nurturance. A plant denied water, nutrients, pruning, caring (nurturance) will be stunted or arrested in its development. At the point that nurturance is withheld, arrested development begins. Because a plant cannot seek nurturance on its own initiative, continued deprivation may end in death. The same is also true in human development. Unlike a rooted plant, a person is able to seek out his/her own nurturance when it is not forthcoming. However, the results are less than satisfying and in most cases the individual will remain arrested in growth and never reach full maturity. The following are 10 signs of arrested development.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.  – James 1:2-5
