Module 4 – Study Material

Precis:

Examine the cause and effect of curses; point out the ways we are unwitting accomplices of Satan; insulate the mind against the lies of the enemy and provoke right thinking.

Text: John 10:10

The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Introduction:

Stephen would never grow up to equal his father’s height of six feet. He had three sisters who would be tall like their dad but alas, he had his mother’s genetics and the pediatrician said that his full stature might reach 5 foot 10. What a cruel trick of heredity! Knowing that short stature may lead to feelings of inadequacy and rejection, his father devoted much time to pointing out that God is the Creator and that each individual was specifically and uniquely made for His purposes. “God makes no mistakes. We are never a disappointment to Him. You need to be proud of who and what you are!” His father challenged him.

He keenly felt the stinging remarks made by his peers at school but managed to develop a relationship with a friend named Larry who had a similar problem. At thirteen he stood six foot seven and he was growing. They were good friends and seldom seen apart from each other. They were amusingly known as the Tall and the Short Oddity.

One day, Larry’s father asked if he was going with them to the Mid-week church service. “No dad” he replied, “I need to study for an exam. But please bring me home a pizza.” When his parents drove into the driveway that evening and the electric garage door opened, the headlights of their car illuminated the shadow of their son hanging from the rafters.

Three months passed as my son Stephen sat in silence, then one day he spoke of the event. “Dad” said Stephen, “Satan hung my best friend!” “How do you figure that?” I responded. “There was no one else around.” He continued thoughtfully, “Dad, Satan made Larry feel badly about himself because he was too tall. Satan used the kids at school to make fun of him and taught him how to hate himself. Then Satan took his hands and tied a rope around his neck; with Larry’s feet he stood him up on the chair. Then with Larry’s hands he tied the rope to the rafter of the garage and then kicked the chair out from under his feet!”

It was my turn to be quiet. “He is right, you know,” I thought. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. He is a murderer and a liar. His purposes are to steal, kill and destroy. But without our willing participation, he could do nothing to us. He needs an accomplice! Indeed, when we listen to Satan we become his accessory in thwarting God’s purposes for our lives http://www.designyourway.net/teme/Dark-Evil-41694.jpg

Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. James 4:7-8
