An Anchor For The Soul                           Class  4

Précis: To establish the dynamics and the difference between the psychological and spiritual processes; specify the limitations of human understanding; determine the superiority of a life in the spirit.

Text: Luke 18:1-8

The word SOUL comes from a Biblical word {psoo-khay’}, which is also translated as mind. It is interesting to note that such words as psychology, psychiatry, psychometrics and  psychoanalysis are derived from this single Greek root. Many people who are unfamiliar with the study of the mind are fearful that any examination of the thought process may lead to secular humanistic philosophy.

It must be acknowledged that many professionals who devote themselves to the discipline of emotional, mental and social sciences are without and apart from Jesus Christ. The result is that their approach to psychology is humanistic in its orientation. The Bible makes it clear that they who are deprived of divine revelation and unaided by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, are seriously limited in their understanding of human nature.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Cor 2:14)

King David warns us about Godless counsel when he states; Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. (Psa.1:1-3) What he tells us is to stay away from all forms of Godlessness, whether in masquerades in the guise of entertainment, politics, education, law, religion, psychotherapy or some other profession. Reject all forms of Godless input which may negatively influence your mind. However the contrary is also true. Never, never, never are we instructed to reject education, law, religion or therapy. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. (Proverbs 12:15)

Wise Men  Still  Seek  Him

We cannot discredit the genuine simply because some ill-guided people have invested the truth with superstition, ridiculous absurdities and malicious distortions. Truth will always remain truth. It cannot be invalidated by false-hood.
